The padding is deliberately a slim comfort layer rather than a thick gel slab. That is a design choice with a practical payoff, it cushions while staying low-profile enough to clear a swinging door, which is exactly where thicker mats become a nuisance. Beneath it, a rubber backing keeps the mat planted even when the floor around it is damp, which is when a sliding mat would be most dangerous.

Cleaning is flexible rather than prescriptive: vacuum it, shake it out, or run the short-pile surface through the machine when it needs a full reset.
